5 Frequently Asked Questions when buying Incontinence Products

Q  What is the difference between night time and day time incontinence products?

A - Day time incontinence products tend to be blue or light in colour packets while night time products are in a purple, green or darker colour to indicate the difference in products but really the night time Incontinence products tend to be more absorbent to allow less frequent changing.

You can find all types of day and night incontinence products when shopping for pads, nappies and pull-ups.

Q  How can I tell absorbency of incontinence products?

A - This can differ between manufacturers as some will indicate an absorbency level in ML were as some adopt a tear drop system, when choosing incontinence pads there may be some trial and error when finding the right one for you. Some sites will offer free samples of Incontinence pads as well as help and advice, don’t be shy we've heard it all.

Q - How often should I change a disposable pad?
A - A disposable pad, once wet can be kept on for about 4 hours. With a bed patient, pads have a wetness indicator that will tell the amount of liquid absorbed. Change as needed.

Q - What do you recommend for really heavy incontinence?
A - Two types of pad. DisposableShaped Pads with leg barriers to prevent leakage. Also A diaper with high absorbency and leg barriers. This is like an adult nappy. It has velcro style tabs for easy putting on and taking off and holding the pad very securely in place. The pad always feels dry and has built in de-odouriser for freshness. This is the ultimate in protection. For really heavy incontinence it may be worth issuing a small pad as well as a diaper, these are known as booster pads.

Q What size is best for me?

A - As a guide manufactures will often stick to small, medium, large and x-Large, however this can differ slightly, to help we have size chart that will assist you in choosing the right product. Currently we only have sizes for Attends, Indas and Lille products however I will look to incorporate further manufactures as we go.
