B&M Supplies: How to buy a cheap Mobility Scooter & get a great deal

Mobility Scooters are great! There is no doubt about it, in fact one of the most pleasurable parts of my job is demonstrating and testing various models for the general public, they come in all shapes and sizes, speeds and styles.

But it’s an unfortunate fact that a lot of companies take advantage of people who are looking for these items on the high street and on-line. Quite often or not we are visited by a customer who will tell us that they spent over £2000 on a scooter that we sell for around £700. Well, the fact is the companies buy these items at reasonable prices then use a number of tricks to lure you into a belief that you are getting a good deal, here’s a few of the tricks of the trade:

High Recommended Retail Price

Let’s look at one of our popular scooters the Cameo 4, it’s a light weight 4mph scooter than can be broken down into 4 separate parts that fit easily into car boot for transportation. The RRP for this product is currently £1,759.00 inc Vat, this is high asking price however we currently sell this model at £707.04 inc VAT but this gives a sales guys an opportunity to use a number of sneaky tricks.

Beware of Part Exchange or Trade in Deals

A lot of mobility shops will offer a trade in for your old scooter, so let’s say a customer wants to part ex his/her scooter and the generous salesman says “ I will give you £500 for you old scooter and I’ll tell you what if you take the scooter today will knock another £100” Sounds good doesn’t it?

Well let’s look at this deal, the sales guy has reduced his price from £1759.00 to £1159 that’s a saving of £600, now remember earlier I mentioned earlier that we sell our at £707.04 inc VAT and we are still making a profit on this but that’s almost double the price we sell the scooter he’s gained a 2nd hand scooter to sell as well.

Sell your old scooter privately you’ll get a better deal, or if its broken give it to a local shop mobility centre, they will be more than happy to fix it up and give it to charity.

Buy one get one free

This seems to be a new one a lot of companies are getting into and it’s not just scooters, we’ve seen ads for by a mobility bed get a recliner free and hundreds of variations of this, so again lets use the cameo 4 as the start of our third scenario, using the RRP as our price I’m going to offer it at Buy one get one free, wow sounds like a great offer doesn’t it, but let’s look at the math’s:
1 x Cameo 4 RRP £1759.00 Divided by 2 that means these are selling at £879 each (by the way that’s a £180 pound profit on each on top of the price we are currently selling this at)
